Men’s Lacrosse Picked Seventh in CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team was picked seventh out of nine teams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

The 2017 Curry men's lacrosse team returns their top five scorers from a year ago, headlined by junior Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) who was the the Colonels top goal scorer and point recorder from a year ago. Serra put up 36 goals and 17 assists for a total of 53 points, all of which led the team. Sophomore MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.), who tallied 26 and 21 goals, respectively.

The Colonels defense looks to build off their 2016 performance. A continued strong groundball game from Chris Bronander (Glen Ridge, N.J.) (36) and Urbano (35) will have a big impact. The defensive unit will be anchored by the collective contributions of juniors Jack Boillotat (Hanover, N.H.), and Chris McGreevy (Rocky Point, N.Y.).

Seniors Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.), Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Wade Prajer (Southbury, Conn.) will captain this year's squad as they will look to improve off a 10-7 overall record obtained in 2016, including a 2-6 mark in the CCC.

Defending CCC tournament champions Western New England take the top spot in the poll. The Golden Bears received 79 points and seven first place votes. Endicott lands in the second spot as the Gulls got 74 points and the two remaining first place votes. Roger Williams (62), University of New England (54), and Salve Regina (44) round out the top five in the poll.
