GORHAM, Maine -- The visiting Curry College Colonels scored three goals in a span of 1:30 in the third quarter to snap a 9-9 tie and pulled away from the University of Southern Maine Huskies for a 15-11 victory in non-conference men's college lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

The win was the second straight for the Colonels and improved their overall record to 8-5.  The Huskies dropped their second straight to slide to 4-6 overall.

Tied 7-7 at halftime, the teams combined to score four goals in a span of 30 seconds early in the third quarter to make it 9-9.  Rookie Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) gave the Huskies an 8-7 lead at 11:59 converting a feed from junior Sam Hornblower (Portland, Maine/Deering).  On the ensuing faceoff, Curry sophomore Zachery White (Milford, Conn.) won the draw, scooped up the ground ball and raced down field to fire a shot past USM junior goalie Zach Bessette (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) seven seconds later to tie the game at 8-8.

White scored a second goal at 11:36 taking a feed from junior Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.).  The Huskies then scored off the faceoff with sophomore Jake Schoenberg (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) tying the game at 9-9 at 11:29.

Just 62 ticks later, Cashin broke the tie for good with his third goal of the game.  Just over a minute later, senior Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) tallied for the Colonels.  White won another faceoff and went right down field to score six seconds later to make it 12-9.  From there, neither team would score over the final 8:57 of the quarter.

Rookie Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.) made it five straight Curry goals tallying unassisted markers at 12:27 and 10:25, respectively, of the fourth quarter to make it 14-9.

White dominated the center X winning 21 of 26 faceoffs and collecting a game-high 11 ground balls.  White and Cashin had three goals apiece to lead the Colonels' offense.  DeLeary and junior Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) added two goals apiece.  Senior goalie Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) earned his fourth win of the season making eight saves.

Dundas, rookie Ryan Marsh (Wells, Maine), junior Nate DelGiudice (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) and senior Jeff Urmston (Bellingham, Mass.) all had two goals for the Huskies.  Bessette stopped a career-high 22 shots in the Husky cage.

Curry outshot USM 52-31 overall (37-19 on goal) and won the battle of the ground balls 51-29.  Both teams were proficient in clearing the ball as Curry was successful 20 of 21 times, and USM was 24 for 29.
