MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Men's Soccer Team picked up a 4-0 non-conference shutout victory over visiting Becker College on Monday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 8-6-1 while the Owls slip to 3-8.
Curry was first to get on the board at 20:14 into the contest. Senior Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) sent junior Christian Mancini (Woodbury, Conn.) a through pass between two Becker defenders. Mancini collected the ball and one-timed it past the glove of the Hawks freshman keeper Majewski (Warren, Mass.). The Colonels extended their lead to two with just 15 seconds remaining on the clock before heading into intermission. Senior Nate Swartz (North Dighton, Mass.) earned his first of two helpers on the day after a score by classmate Andrew Gass (Durham, N.H.). Curry's sophomore goalkeeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) held the Hawks scoreless making one stop. The Colonels held a demanding 21-3 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of play.
Curry tallied their third goal of the game 3:48 minutes into the second period. The goal came off the foot of sophomore Mitchell Forbes (Boxford, Mass.) with an assist credited to Silvia. Before the final horn sounded the Colonels netted one more for their fourth. Swartz sent sophomore Ali Pungi (Kinshasa, Congo) a pass inside the 18-yard. Pungi struck the ball high into the corner of the goal over the shoulder of Majewski. Becker got off just three shots, two on net, as Curry's defense was solid in the back field. The Colonels led again in shots with 21 for a game total of 42 while the Hawks had a game total of six.
DeMaio earned the win in net with his one save before giving way to DiBrina who made two saves in 29:26 minutes. Freshman Dylan Griffin (Hornell, N.Y.) finished out the game in net for Curry seeing zero shots in 15:34 minutes. Majewski was handed the loss for Becker making an impressive 16 saves.
Curry returns to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Roger Williams for a Commonwealth Coast Conference match at 7:00 p.m.
