Women's Basketball Knocks Off Fitchburg State, 69-56, to Capture Curry Tip-Off Tournament Title
MILTON, Mass.­­ - On the second day of the Curry College Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament, the host Colonels took care of Fitchburg State in the Championship Game, 69-56, while Johnson State topped Southern Vermont in the Consolation Game, 72-52.

In the Tournament championship game, Falcons’ sophomore Kristen Enright (Westminster, Mass.) converted on a layup with 9:03 remaining in the first frame, pulling Fitchburg to within three (19-16). The Colonels responded with a 15-7 run to close out the half and take a 34-23 edge at intermission. Sophomore Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) sparked the run with a made free throw and also capped it off with a layup with 14 seconds on the clock. With 4:02 remaining in regulation, sophomore Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) gave Curry its largest lead of the game (61-43) after sinking a pair from the charity stripe.

Beltz led the Colonels with a team-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including two from beyond the arc. Sophomore Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) and Fallon added 16 and 14 points, respectively.  Corcoran recorded a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Falcons were led by sophomore Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass.) with a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double effort. Freshman Megan Wodzinski (Littleton, Mass.) chipped in with 16 points.

JOHNSON STATE 72, SOUTHERN VERMONT 52
Johnson took its largest lead of the first half (41-21) with 2:58 on the clock after freshman Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt.) made a layup , but Southern Vermont managed to trim the lead to 15 (43-28) heading into the break. With 3:29 remaining in regulation the Mountaineers trimmed the lead to 12 (50-38) after freshman Anna Lease (East Berne, N.Y.) capped off a 10-0 run with a made layup, but the Badgers remained resilient en route to a 72-52 victory.

The Badgers were led by Richardson with a game-high 23 points. Sophomore Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt.) contributed with 15 points and a game-best seven steals. Freshman Lazrin Schenck recorded 13 total points. Schenck and sophomore Kristen Rand (Colchester, Vt.) pulled down seven rebounds apiece. Freshman Brittany Moody (South Burlington, Vt.) chipped in with 10 points.

The Mountaineers were led by freshman Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Classmates Sarah McDonald (Cohoes, N.Y.) and Javasha White (Schnectady, N.Y.) pulled down 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were: Kylie Beltz (Curry), Samantha Corcoran (Curry), Amy Fahey (Fitchburg), Mary Richardson (Johnson) and Amber Flagg (Southern Vermont).
