MILTON, Mass. – Visiting University of New England outlasted Curry College, 68-55, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Tuesday night in Milton. The Nor'easters improved to 12-2 overall and 9-0 in CCC play, while the Colonels fell to 9-7 on the season and 6-3 in league action.
After Curry sophomore Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) converted a layup to tie the game at 20-20 with 8:24 remaining in the first period, UNE closed out the half on a 15-0 scoring stretch. Senior Kelly Coleman (Portland, Conn.) opened the run with a made layup, while sophomore Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) capped off the first half with a layup.
With 6:44 left in the game, junior Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) trimmed the lead to 10 (56-46) with a made layup. The Nor'easter's maintained a steady lead through the remaining minutes, scoring 12 of the game's final 21 points en route to the 68-55 final.
Junior Lauren Hayden (Chantilly, Va.) led all scorers with 18 points. Classmates Megan Gribbin (Windham, Maine) and Alanna Vose (Cushing, Maine) added 13 and 11, respectively. Senior Kelly Coleman pulled down a team-high 10 boards, while also scoring nine points.
Senior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) paced the Colonels' offense with 14 points, while also recording eight rebounds. Kerry White (Windham, N.H.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-best 12 rebounds, while Griffith chipped in with 12 points.
UNE returns to action on Thursday, travelling to Colby for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest, while Curry travels to Wentworth on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. CCC match-up.
