The first quarter started as a back-and-forth affair with three different lead changes and two ties over the ten minutes. Junior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) started the scoring with a three-pointer and was followed by a layup from senior Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) a couple minutes later to put Curry up 5-0. The Colonels battled back and after trading baskets, lowered the deficit to seven after Irwin hit both of her shots from the charity stripe bringing the score to 38-31. However after that, the Hawks increased their lead to 15 following a three from Ariola with three and a half minutes left.
