MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Colonels battled the Gordon College Fighting Scots to a 59-43 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels finish the regular season 12-13 overall and 9-9 in the CCC, while the Fighting Scots drop to 6-19 on the season and 2-16 in the conference.
Curry and Gordon battled back and forth defensively to start the game, causing multiple turnovers both ways. Both teams traded baskets at the end of the quarter; with Curry taking a 9-7 lead into the second quarter. The Colonels came out strong in the second half going on a 9-0 run to build an 11-point lead. Gordon scored its first basket of the second at the 5:10 mark. The teams traded baskets to close out the quarter, with Curry taking a 22-14 lead into the half.
The third quarter started similar to how the game started, with both teams playing strong defense and causing multiple turnovers. The Fighting Scots cut into the Colonels lead, bring that deficit down to seven with 3:43 left in the quarter, but Curry fought right back to build a 36-26 lead to end the quarter. The Colonels wouldn't look back in the fourth quarter, building its largest lead of the game, 20, with 1:18 left in the fourth. The Colonels coasted to a 59-43 victory.
Nicole Rice finished the game with a team high in points, rebounds and blocks on her way to a double-double; scoring 12 points, grabbing 14 boards and denying three shots. Emily Erwin had a solid showing as well, dropping 11 points and dishing out six assists. Christina Deiorio added 10 points in 31 minutes and Kerry White grabbed 10 rebounds and added nine points of her own.
Jess Ryan led the scoring for the Fighting Scots, dropping 15 points. Jamie Tafoya added six points of her own and grabbed five rebounds. This brings an end to the Fighting Scots season.
The Colonels now await the tournament pairings to be released.
