SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) of the Curry College women's basketball team has been named as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week. The junior guard was also named to the New England Women's Basketball Association's Weekly Honor Roll. Irwin led the Colonels to a 2-0 week including one victory in conference action. Additionally, Irwin was named as the ECAC Division III North Player of the Week.
Irwin averaged a double-double this week as she helped Curry go 2-0. She averaged 26.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 8.0 steals per game while shooting 42.9 percent (18-for-42) from the field. She opened the week with a 24-point, seven-rebound conference win over Gordon. She also had three assists and seven steals in that game. She followed that up with a season-high 28 points against Fitchburg State. She also had 15 rebounds in that game to complete her double-double. She was one steal away from completing a triple-double as she had nine takeaways.
Irwin and the Colonels will return to action on Thursday, January 4 when they travel to Salve Regina for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
