QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team fell to Curry 58-47 Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions dip to 7-7 on the year and 1-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Colonels improve to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in league play with the win.
Alyssa Cosio Murillo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) netted a team-high 12 points off the bench. Michelle Detwiler (Elkhart, Ind.) grabbed 11 rebounds and added four points. Stella Dulay (Santa Marita, Calif.) registered eight points while Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished with eight boards and six points.
The visitors utilized a 7-0 run to establish a 9-5 edge with 1:33 left to play in the first quarter.
The home team trailed by two after 10 minutes of action, 12-10.
Eastern Nazarene clawed back to level the score at 18-18 with 4:29 remaining in the second period as Cosio Murillo splashed a three-pointer.
The Lions reclaimed the lead with 2:21 to go in the first half on a fast-break layup by Jenna Meacham (Millington, Mich.) and widened the gap to 27-21 on a pair of free throws by Detwiler with 1:24 on the clock.
The hosts clung to a narrow 27-25 advantage at the half after shooting 36% from the floor and 45.5% from beyond the arc in the opening two quarters. Curry owned a field-goal percentage of 20.7% at the break and was limited to 1-for-9 shooting from three-point distance.
Cosio Murillo paced Eastern Nazarene with eight points off the bench while Dulay added six points and Detwiler hauled in six boards.
The third quarter featured four ties and three lead changes before the guests closed out the period with a 6-0 run to hold a 45-39 lead heading into the fourth frame.
Curry pushed its advantage to double-digits with 8:09 left to play in regulation on a basket by Nicole Rice, 50-39.
The Colonels outscored the Lions 13-8 in the final quarter of the contest to earn the win.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 26.7% and sank 5-of-18 from long distance. The Colonels shot 32.1% from the floor on the day despite making just trey on 15 attempts.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts Nichols January 16 in the second of three consecutive home games. Curry returns home on Tuesday, January 16 as they host the University of New England at 5:30 p.m.
