Baseball Drops Game to California Lutheran in 7 Innings
Thousand Oaks, CA — The Curry College baseball team fell to a strong Cal Lutheran, 11–0, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Sparky Anderson Field. The Colonels move to 1–2 on the season, while the Kingsmen improve to 13–3.
Cal Lutheran seized control early with a seven-run first inning, capitalizing on timely hits and early scoring opportunities. The Kingsmen opened the scoring on a balk that allowed Philip Jeong to cross the plate before Jacob Blickenderfer added an RBI groundout to extend the lead. Later in the inning, Troy Anderson delivered a two-run double to left field, and Philip Jeong capped the rally with a two-run single to give Cal Lutheran a 7–0 advantage after the opening frame.
The Kingsmen continued to add to their lead throughout the game. A sacrifice fly from Lucas Danielewicz brought home another run in the third inning, while Anderson recorded a sacrifice fly of his own in the fourth to push the margin to 9–0. Cal Lutheran added the final two runs in the fifth when Jona Dawson lined a two-run single through the right side.
Curry generated five hits in the contest but was unable to break through offensively against a deep Kingsmen pitching staff that used seven pitchers to combine for the shutout.
Ryan Murphy led the Colonels at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance, while Michael Frausto recorded a double and Brandon Mantilla-Mercado and Aaron Siegal each added a hit.
On the mound, Ryan Crowley provided solid relief for Curry, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing two runs and striking out one. Danny Leyva added 2.1 innings of work, and Dan MacLean finished the game with a scoreless final inning, striking out two.
Cal Lutheran totaled 12 hits in the victory, with Anderson driving in three runs and Jeong adding two RBI to lead the Kingsmen offense.
