Baseball Falls to Occidental in First Game of Series
Los Angeles, CA — The Curry College baseball team dropped a 12–2 decision to Occidental College on Thursday afternoon at Anderson Field on their west coast trip. The Colonels fall to 1–3 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 12–4 overall.
Occidental struck first in the bottom of the second inning, plating three runs to take an early lead. The Tigers added to their advantage with a six-run fourth inning that proved to be the decisive stretch of the game.
Curry broke through in the top of the third inning when Jorge Rodriguez lined an RBI single to left field, bringing home Anthony Figueroa to cut the deficit to 3–1. The Colonels later added their second run in the sixth inning as Yadiel Santos delivered an RBI single to score Rodriguez.
Rodriguez led the Curry offense with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, including a double and an RBI, while Danny Leyva and Figueroa each collected two hits. Santos also added a hit and an RBI as the Colonels finished with eight hits in the contest.
On the mound, Reegan Thomas took the loss for Curry after making the start and pitching 3.1 innings. Aiden Agee provided a scoreless inning in relief, while Sean Higgins worked the final 1.2 innings.
Occidental extended its lead with three additional runs in the seventh inning to seal the 12–2 victory.
