Colonels Relinquish 9th Inning Lead, Fall to Nichols 11-10
Dudley, MA - The Colonels despite an eight-run seventh inning, took an 11-10 road loss at Nichols College on Wednesday afternoon. After leading 10-5 after a huge offensive burst, a five-run ninth inning surge helped the Bison overcome the Curry lead.
The Colonels found themselves behind early, but found their rhythm in the middle innings. In the fourth, Jorge Rodriguez came around to score on a wild pitch to put Curry on the board, and Cooper Salter later crossed the plate to even the game at 2-2.
On the mound, Jack Keane kept Curry within striking distance through seven innings, working through traffic in many innings. He struck out five and allowed six runs (five earned) in the outing.
Trailing 5-2 in the seventh, Curry erupted for eight runs in a game-changing frame. Blake Fuller ignited the rally, eventually scoring before Cooper Salter drove in a run to cut into the deficit. Moments later, Nick Krise added an RBI to make it a one-run game.
With momentum building, Anthony Figueroa delivered a clutch two-run single to give Curry its first lead of the day. The offense kept rolling as Fuller came through again with a two-run single, extending the advantage. Jasiah Rodriques capped the inning with a two-run double, scoring both Fuller and Danny Leyva to give Curry a commanding 10-5 lead.
Curry's lineup finished with 14 hits on the day, highlighted by multi-hit performances from Anthony Figueroa, Brandon Mantilla-Mercado, Blake Fuller, Jasiah Rodriques, and Ryan Murphy. Nick Krise also contributed with two RBI, while Cooper Salter added a run batted in and scored twice.
However, the lead would not hold. Despite the effort from Reegan Thomas out of the bullpen, the opposition rallied in the ninth, capitalizing on key hits and defensive miscues to chip away at the deficit. The tying and go-ahead runs crossed late in the frame, completing the comeback, and giving Nichol's their first win in Conference of New England play.
Up Next: The Colonels look to regroup and get back on track tomorrow at home when they host Emerson College at Jack Valley Diamond. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
