Colonels Hold off Lions For First Home Win
Milton, MA - Curry College baseball earned a 6-5 victory over Emerson on Thursday afternoon, holding off a late rally to secure the win at home.
The Colonels jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Jorge Rodriguez launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Anthony Figueroa and giving Curry a 2-0 advantage. After Emerson answered with a run in the second, Curry continued to apply pressure offensively.
In the third, Taylor Diaz delivered an RBI single to bring home Jasiah Rodriques, extending the lead to 3-1. Curry added another run in the fourth when Blake Fuller drove in Nick Krise with an RBI single. The Colonels continued to capitalize on opportunities in the middle innings, scoring in both the fifth and sixth on wild pitches that allowed Jasiah Rodriques and Nick Krise to cross the plate, pushing the lead to 6-1.
On the mound, Curry used a numerb of arms out of the bullpen to maintain control. Danny Leyva got the start, allowing just one run over two innings, while Sean Higgins followed with two scoreless frames and three strikeouts. Ryan Bohrman earned the win with two shutout innings and two strikeouts, keeping Emerson off the board and preserving Curry's lead.
Emerson mounted a comeback attempt late, scoring twice in the seventh and adding single runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to cut the deficit to one. However, Curry was able to close it out behind Aiden Agee, who earned the save despite surrendering a solo home run in the ninth.
Offensively, Curry tallied nine hits, with Nick Krise leading the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance and two runs scored. Taylor Diaz added two hits and an RBI, while Rodriguez's early home run proved to be the difference in the contest.
