Game 2
Weymouth, MA - The Curry College baseball team dropped both games of a conference doubleheader to Wentworth on Saturday at Libby Field, falling 4-2 in the opener and 8-3 in game two.
Game #1:
Curry (6-13, 4-5 CNE) was held in check offensively for much of the opener before a late push came up short. Wentworth (15-11, 5-4 CNE) took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning and broke the game open with three runs in the fourth to go ahead 4-0.
The Colonels responded in the seventh inning, scoring twice to cut into the deficit. Cooper Salter delivered an RBI single to plate Anthony Figueroa, and Blake Fuller followed with an RBI groundout to bring Curry within two. However, that would be as close as the Colonels would get.
Figueroa led the offense with two hits, while Salter added a pair of hits and an RBI. On the mound, Henry Marino took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) over five innings, while Aiden Agee provided three scoreless innings of relief.
Game #2:
Curry struck first in the second game, taking advantage of a Wentworth error in the opening inning to grab a 1-0 lead. The Leopards answered in the fourth with two runs and used a four-run sixth inning to pull away.
The Colonels briefly tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI fielder's choice from Michael Frausto, but Wentworth responded immediately with four runs in the bottom half to regain control.
Curry added a run in the eighth, but Wentworth sealed the game with two more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Frausto paced Curry with two hits and an RBI, while Blake Fuller scored twice. The Colonels showed aggressiveness on the basepaths, swiping multiple bases throughout the game.
Lucas daCosta started on the mound and took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) over five innings. Ryan Crowley and Ryan Bohrman combined in relief as Curry worked through the final innings.
Across the doubleheader, Curry recorded 13 hits but was unable to overcome timely hitting from Wentworth, particularly in key middle innings of both games.
Up Next: Curry heads back on the road Sunday, going to Salve Regina for more conference action.
