Baseball Comes Up Short Against Roger Williams
Bristol, RI - The Curry College baseball team fell to Roger Williams, 5-2, in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Tuesday afternoon at Paolino Field.
Curry (6-15, 4-6 CNE) found itself in an early hole as Roger Williams (12-12, 5-5 CNE) struck for four runs in the opening inning. The Hawks added another run in the third to build a 5-0 lead, taking advantage of timely hitting and a pair of Curry miscues.
Despite the early deficit, Curry's pitching staff settled in as the game progressed. After allowing five runs (three earned) over the first four innings, Jack Keane was relieved by Henry Marino, who delivered three strong scoreless innings while striking out four. Ryan Bohrman followed with a scoreless eighth inning to keep the Colonels within reach.
Curry would eventually break through in the eighth inning, scoring twice to cut into the deficit. Nick Krise came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Jorge Rodriguez, and Anthony Figueroa followed with an RBI single to plate Danny Leyva and make it a 5-2 game. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Roger Williams closed out the game to secure the victory.
Offensively, the Colonels recorded seven hits, with Figueroa and Michael Frausto each tallying two hits. Leyva and Krise accounted for Curry's two runs.
Up Next: Curry will return home on Wednesday afternoon, set to host Framingham State in a non-conference matchup.
