Frausto’s Big Day Not Enough as Curry Falls to Springfield in Extra-Inning Battle
Milton, MA – A standout performance from shortstop Michael Frausto was not enough as Curry College baseball dropped an 8-6 extra-inning decision to Springfield College baseball on Thursday afternoon.
Frausto led the Colonels offensively, going 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Ryan Murphy, Joey Kazlauskas, and Jorge Rodriguez each drove in a run, while Devin Grove added two hits in the loss.
Curry (6-17) jumped out early, responding to a first-inning Springfield run with one of their own on a sacrifice fly from Kazlauskas. The Colonels then took control in the second inning, as Frausto delivered a two-run triple before Murphy followed with an RBI single to give Curry a 4-1 advantage.
Springfield (18-9) chipped away, plating a run in the third before capitalizing on a Curry error in the sixth to make it 4-3. The Pride evened the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single, taking a 5-4 lead.
Curry answered in the eighth when Frausto came through again with an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5 and force extra innings.
In the 10th, Springfield broke through with three runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Jack Dunaisky. Curry attempted a late rally in the bottom half, getting an RBI single from Nick Krise, but the comeback fell short.
