Milton, MA - The Curry College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Hartford on Saturday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond, falling 5-2 in game one before an 12-0 defeat in game two.
Game #1
Curry and Hartford traded early runs before the Hawks pulled away late to secure the opener.
Hartford struck first in the top of the first inning, but the Colonels answered immediately as Brandon Mantilla-Mercado lifted a sacrifice fly to even the score at 1-1. Curry took its only lead of the day in the fourth inning when Michael Frausto delivered an RBI single, scoring Ryan Murphy to make it 2-1.
The advantage was short-lived, as Hartford responded with a run in the fifth to tie the game before pushing across two runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. The Hawks added an insurance run in the eighth to account for the final margin.
Frausto led Curry with two hits and an RBI, while Mantilla-Mercado also drove in a run. Henry Marino turned in a solid start, allowing four runs over six innings, but was tagged with the loss.
Game #2
Hartford's offense carried over into game two, scoring in six of the seven innings en route to a shutout victory.
The Hawks plated two runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding three more in the second and two in the third to quickly build a 7-0 lead. Hartford continued to tack on runs throughout the game, including a pair in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Curry managed just two hits in the contest, coming from Brandon Mantilla-Mercado and Aaron Siegal, as Hartford starter Joe Dooley tossed a complete game shutout.
Jack Keane took the loss for Curry after allowing five runs in the opening innings, while multiple relievers saw action out of the bullpen.
Up Next: The Colonels hope to snap their losing streak on Tuesday with another home matchup vs the Bison of Nichols College.
