Baseball Held to Four Hits in 8-0 Loss to Brandeis
Milton, MA - Curry College baseball was held off the scoreboard on Wednesday afternoon, falling 8-0 to Brandeis at Jack Vallely Diamond.
Brandeis broke through in the third inning and steadily added to its lead, while its pitching staff kept the Colonels' offense in check throughout. Curry was limited to just four hits and struck out 15 times in the contest.
After two scoreless frames, Brandeis got on the board in the third on a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. The visitors added two more runs in the fourth, capitalizing on another sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Connor Crowley to extend the lead to 3-0.
Curry had a few opportunities early, including a two-hit performance from Anthony Figueroa and singles from Blake Fuller and Ryan Murphy, but could not string together enough offense to push a run across.
On the mound, Danny Leyva took the loss, allowing three runs over 3.2 innings. Jack Keane provided solid relief, surrendering three runs (two earned) across 4.1 innings, while Dan MacLean tossed the final frame.
Brandeis pulled away late, scoring twice in the seventh and adding insurance runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Crowley led the offensive effort with three hits and two RBI, while Henry Aronwald and Danny Tambascia each drove in runs as part of a 12-hit afternoon.
Andrew Tringe (4-5) earned the win for Brandeis, striking out 10 over five scoreless innings.
