Mantilla-Mercado's 3-Run Blast Helps Lead Colonels to Senior Day Victory
Milton, MA - Curry College baseball used a big seventh inning to rally past Massachusetts Maritime, 9-6, on Senior Day at Jack Vallely Diamond. The win would also snap Curry's previous 18-game losing streak.
Prior to the start of the game, the 2026 Curry Baseball Senior Class was recognized for their commitment to the program. The five seniors honored were: #17 Colin Botelho, #28 Aaron Siegal, #33 Devin Grove, #34 Brandon Mantilla-Mercado, and #38 Reegan Thomas.
In the opening inning, the Buccaneers struck first posting two runs, but Curry answered immediately. Senior Brandon Mantilla-Mercado drove in both Jorge Rodriguez and Anthony Figueroa on a three-run homer to right-center, giving the Colonels a 3-2 lead. After Mass. Maritime tied the game in the second, Michael Frausto responded with a solo home run to put Curry back in front, 4-3.
Curry added another run in the fourth on an RBI single from Blake Fuller, but Mass. Maritime battled back once again. The Buccaneers tied the game in the fifth and took a 6-5 lead in the seventh behind a strong day from Michael Logiudice, who recorded four hits.
The Colonels would then deliver the decisive blow in the bottom half of the seventh. Frausto sparked the rally with a two-run double to give Curry a 7-6 edge, before Mantilla-Mercado came through again with a two-run double to extend the lead to 9-6.
Mantilla-Mercado led the offensive charge on the day with five RBI's, while Frausto added three RBI's and three hits. Nick Krise also chipped in with three hits as Curry totaled 12 on the day.
On the mound, Reegan Thomas went six innings in the start, allowing five runs while striking out five. Mike Riordan registered an inning out of the bullpen, giving up two hits and an earned run. Jack Keane would go on to earn the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game. Relief pitcher Nathan McCurdy received the loss for the Buccaneers.
Up Next: The Colonels will wrap up their season on the road at Endicott on Saturday afternoon, set to face the Gulls for a doubleheader at 12 PM & 3 PM.
