Quinn Sets New Record in Football Blowout
Henniker, NH - The Curry Football team had a historic day, as they beat New England College 62-7 on Saturday. The Colonels are now 3-1 on the season, while NEC is now 0-5. The 62 points scored are the second most in program history, trailing only the 65 points the Colonels scored on 10/9/2004 against Salve Regina.
Things started early for the Colonels as they scored twice in the first quarter on a pair of 5-yard TD passes from Anthony Santino. The first to Wesley Williams, and the second to Kareem Chaplin II. It was 13-0 after one. Next came a big play from Montie Quinn, as he scored a 75-yard TD early in the second. He also scored late in the quarter on a 21-yard rush. In between his two scores was a 20-yard TD pass from Santino to Matthew Bowen. All that gave the Colonels a 34-0 lead at the break.
The second half was a similar story. After a 5-yard TD run from Santino, the backups came in, but the scoring didn't stop. Both backup QBs got in on the action, as Ty Tedesco scored on a 41-yard run, and Ronin McNamara threw an 18-yard TD pass to Patrick Leary. The final score of the game for the Colonels came on a four-yard Gabe Santos run, making it 62-0. The Colonels attempted to record their largest shutout victory in program history, but allowed a touchdown with just second remaining in the game.
Despite only playing in the first half for the second straight week, it was a historic day for Montie Quinn. The multiple time All-American ran for 214 yards on 16 attempts, and scored twice. With the two touchdowns he passed Raphael Zammit for the most rushing touchdowns in program history, now holding the record with 45. Including his lone career receiving TD from last week, and a punt return TD earlier in his career, Quinn now has 47 career TDs, trailing only Zammit, who had 55 (44 rushing, eight receiving, one punt return, and two kick return).
Quinn now holds the program record for career rushing yards, career rushing touchdowns, career rushing yards per game, career rushing yards per rush, rushing yards in a season, rushing yards per game in a season, career kickoff return average, and rushing yards in a game. With 777 career rushing attempts, he is just 23 behind Zammit's 800 for that record. He also is currently averaging 8.5 yards per rush attempt on the season, which would set that record.
Anthony Santino was once again a calm presence at the QB position, going 12-19 for 177 yards and three TDs. Wesley Williams and Matthew Bowen each eclipsed 60 receiving yards.
Up next - The Colonels will host Maine Maritime next week at 11am.
