Quinn, Parsons, and Bowen Win Major Awards; 15 Receive All-Conference Recognition
Milton, MA - The CNE announced their end of the year football awards on Wednesday, and the Curry football team received numerous honors and awards.
Montie Quinn was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in three years, and for good reason. He has rushed for a country leading 2,436 yards and 27 touchdowns, and is on the verge of breaking or tying numerous NCAA records. Quinn was also named to the conference's first team for the fourth straight year. He just the second player in program history to be named to four consecutive all-conference first teams, joining George Gardner (1971-1974).
Coach Todd Parsons was named the Coach of the Year, leading the Colonels to an 8-2 record. The eight win mark was something the Colonels had only achieved once in the last 15 years.
Joining Quinn on the first team is two of his offensive linemen in Conner Coutinho and Noah Coppinger. They have each helped block for Quinn for each of the past four years, and have been leaders on the team. Coppinger was also named to the second team last year,
A fourth player on offense also was named to the first team in QB Anthony Santino. The transfer from Saint Anselm, has given Curry a more potent offense, as defense have had to respect the threat of a pass more than in years past. Santino has thrown for 1,507 yards, and has a 21-2 touchdown to interception ratio.
The Colonels had one defensive player named to the first team, and it was senior LB Leo Yardumian. Tied for second on the team with 49 tackles, Yardumian also had 6.5 tackles for loss and an interception on the season.
The Colonels also had a strong special teams unit this year, as two members were recognized with first team honors. Omar Aboutoui was named to the first team for the second straight year, as he broke the program record for longest field goal numerous times. He went 12 for 13, and had a long of 54. He also went 53 for 58 on XP. Joining him on the first team in the utility role, was Jordan Depina. Depina has become one of the best kick returners in the conference, and averaged 25.1 yards per return, and brought one back for a touchdown this year.
Another member of the Curry OLine was named to the second team in Jhonnyel Ramirez. The center battled injuries throughout the season, but continued to make his way on to the field.
While the run game was the Colonels' bread and butter, they do have two of the more explosive wide receivers in the conference in Colin Ridley and Wesley Williams, both of whom were named to the second team. Williams, a sophomore caught 30 passes for 467 yards and eight touchdown. Ridley, who has previously been named to both the first and second teams, caught 28 passes for 395 yards and four TDs.
Four members of the defense were named to the second team in Lucas Leander, Dom Baez, Pete Jurovich III, and Shane Field. Leander led the team with three interceptions, while Baez and Jurovich tied for the team lead in sacks with four each. Field led the team in tackles with 69.
Matthew Bowen, a wide receiver, was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, showing excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
Finn Sullivan was also recognized as a member of the conference's community service team
