Second-Half Comeback Falls Short As Men's Basketball Absorbs 66-56 Loss to UMass Dartmouth
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College nearly overcame a 21-point halftime deficit, but fell 66-56 to visiting UMass Dartmouth in non-conference men’s basketball action on Thursday evening in Milton. The Corsairs improved to 5-3 while the Colonels fell to 2-5.
UMD built its biggest lead of the first half (39-13) after senior Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) sank a pair from the charity stripe with 1:17 left before intermission. Curry scored seven of the period’s last nine points to trim the lead to 21 (41-20) heading into the break.
After the Corsairs scored the first five points of the second frame, the Colonels cut the deficit to five (56-51) with a 15-minute, 31-10 run. Junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) accounted for 16 points in the run, capping it off with a jumper with 3:26 remaining in regulation. UMD went on to score 10 of the game’s final 15 points.
Greene and senior Colin Burns (Chepachet, R.I.) led the Corsairs with 15 points apiece, while classmate Alex Klepadlo (Bernardston, Mass.) added 14. Senior Justin Pulver (Plymouth, Mass.) pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
Curry was led by Jones with a game-high 29 points. Junior John Durkin (Madison, Conn.), sophomore Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Trae Weathers (Revere, Mass.) each recorded five rebounds.
The Colonels return to action on December 29, with a match-up against Middlebury at 3:00 p.m. in the first day of the Salem State Tournament. UMD resumes play on Saturday, hosting Plymouth State with a 3:00 p.m. start time.
