Hockey Downs Southern New Hampshire 8-1 in Season Opener

HOOKSETT, N.H. - Eight different players netted goals for Curry College as the Colonels defeated Southern New Hampshire University 8-1 at the Ice Den Thursday evening. With the loss, the Penmen even their record to 1-1-1, while the Colonels start their season with a record of 1-0-0.
Curry would strike three times in both the first and second periods. In the first period, the Colonels would see goals from Stephen Mohler, Brett Kaneshiro and Josh Kamrass. Curry would hold the 3-0 lead into the second period, where the Colonels would strike again 3:46 into the period on a power play goal by Payden Benning. Connor Hendry and Ross Enmark would also notch goals for Curry, taking a 6-0 lead into the third period.
Curry would strike with two more goals in the third from Michael Guzzo and Jarrett Rush before SNHU would score their lone goal with 3:44 left on the clock when Adam Zieglar (Medford, Mass.) connected on a pass from Troy Maybury (South Portland, Maine). Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) also assisted on the goal.
Ryan Gleason (Westford, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Penmen, recording 26 saves. Curry netminder Steve Jakiel stopped 16 shots, as the Colonels outshot the Penmen 34-17.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday, hosting Framingham State College at 7:00 p.m. at the Ice Den.
