Hockey Takes The Top Spot In 2010-11 Preseason Poll
CAPE COD, Mass. – Curry College has been voted the top team for the 2010-11 ECAC Northeast Ice Hockey League Coaches' Poll, receiving 61 votes including five first place votes. Curry comes into this season as the defending ECAC Northeast Champions. The Championship was the Colonels first since
2005 and led Curry to a NCAA National Tournament appearance. Helping to lead the Colonels to a 19-9-1 overall, 10-3-1 conference record was First Team All ECAC defensemen Ryan Barlock (Niles, Ill/Springfield Jr. Blues).
Wentworth places second on the poll with 59 total votes and 3 first place votes. The Leopards finished as the regular season champions in 2009-10 with an overall record of 20-5-1 and an11-3-0 conference record. Returning to help lead the Leopards is ECAC Northeast Player of the Year Syklur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif./Wichita Falls) placing third on theoverall points chart with 18 goals, 25 assists, for 43 points. Also returning for the Leopards is First Team All ECAC defensemen Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif./St. Louis).
Nichols grabs the number three spot with 46 points, as the Bison come out of a 13-10-3 overall, 7-6-1 conference season. ECAC Northeast Rookie of the Year forward Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis./New England Falcons) returns to Nichols after posting 16 goals, 28 assists, and 44 points to put him second on the overall points chart for the 2009-10 season.
Landing in the number four spot with 36 points is Johnson and Wales. The Wildcats skated to a 12-15-1 overall and 7-6-1 conference record in 2009-10. Returning for the Wildcats is First Team All ECAC forward Craig Houle (Burrillville, R.I./Portland Pirates), who also led the league in points with 19 goals, 28 assists, and 47 points.
Finishing out the top five is Suffolk University led by ECAC Northeast Coach of the Year Chris Glionna and ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Year, Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn./Valley), who backed the Rams to a 12-11-3 overall record and an 8-4-2 conference record, returns for another season with the Rams. Becker grabs the number six spot, while Western New England takes seven and Salve Regina lands in eighth. ECAC Northeast league play will start on November 17 at 6:40 p.m. as Nichols travels to Becker and Johnson and Wales hosts Wentworth.
