Milton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team fell in their conference opener, as they hosted fellow top 10 team UNE on Friday. The Colonels, who entered the game ranked #2 in the country lost 5-1 to the ninth ranked Nor'easters. The Colonels are now 1-1-0 on the season, and 0-1-0 in CNE play. The Nor'easters are now 2-0-0 and 1-0-0.
The visitors wasted no time, scoring less than a minute into the game, after a shot that appeared to be saved squeaked into the net. The Nor'easters then doubled their lead minutes later, and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The Colonels came out playing fast, and scored a goal less than a minute into the new period, cutting the lead in half. While they had chances to tie the game, they were unable to capitalize, and UNE regained their two goal lead late in the period. They would then score twice in the last two minutes of the game to win 5-1.
The lone Colonels goal came from Karim Gayfullin, and was assisted by Victor Daigneault and Ryan Prewitt.
The Colonels went 0-7 on the power play, and were outshot 31-24. The Colonels did win the faceoff battle 33 to 27.
Up next - The Colonels will look to bounce back next Friday when they host Suffolk at 7pm.
