Burrillville, RI - The Curry Men's Hockey team lost in a shootout to Nichols on Friday, after playing to a 3-3 tie. The Colonels are now 15-7-1 on the season, and 12-5-1 in CNE play. The Bison are 9-12-1 and 6-10-1. The Colonels had been 16-1-0 in the last 17 games against the Bison.
Andrew Morton wasted no time for the Colonels, scoring just two minutes into the game. The Bison would tie things up before the end of the period, but Shane Carr put the Colonels back up just under four minutes into the second. Once again the Bison would respond, this time with two goals before the end of the period, and they would take that 3-2 lead into the third, and deep into the third. It wasn't until after the Colonels pulled their goalie, and then seven seconds later the Colonels scored the equalizer, this goal being scored by Killian Rowlee. After a scoreless OT period, it went to a shootout, which the Bison won 2-1 in six rounds, with Blake Rothstein scoring the lone goal for the Colonels.
Curry had a slight shot advantage at 30-29, and won the faceoff battle 31-24. Ryan Rhodes stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced.
This is just the fourth time in program history that the Colonels have participated in a shootout. They are now 1-3 all time in the shootout, with the lone win coming in 2018 over Nazareth. The last shootout for the Colonels came three years ago against Endicott on 1/27/2023.
Up Next - The Colonels will have a week off before playing again next Friday at Suffolk at 6pm.
