Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey season came to an end on Wednesday evening, as the #4 Seed Colonels (16-9-1, 13-6-1 CNE) fell to the #5 Seed Bison of Nichols College (11-14-1, 7-12-1).
Nichols opened the scoring at the 13:21 mark of the first period when Justin Massa found the back of the net unassisted. Curry answered less than a minute later, as Andrew Morton netted the equalizer at 13:58 off assists from Killian Rowlee and Ryan Prewitt. The quick response energized the Colonels and sent the teams into the first intermission tied 1-1.
After going nearly 20 minutes of gametime without another score, the Bison regained the lead midway through the second period as Gavin Duckworth scored at 13:30, finishing off a feed from Liam Boswell to put the Bison ahead 2-1.
In the final period, Curry continued to press and generated several quality chances, ultimately outshooting Nichols 43-21 in the contest. However, the Bison capitalized on their opportunities, as Aaron Hamel scored a power-play goal at 10:40 to extend the lead to 3-1. Despite continued offensive-zone time from the Colonels, Nichols sealed the game with an empty-net tally by Alexis Trudeau at 16:48.
Thomas Heaney made 17 saves in net for Curry, while Nichols goaltender Ryan Henry turned aside 42 of 43 shots. The Colonels also found success in the faceoff circle, winning 27 draws, but were unable to convert on three power-play opportunities.
