Dudley, MA - The Curry College men's lacrosse team battled back to erase a second-half deficit but was unable to hold off Nichols in the final quarter, falling 11-8 on Wednesday evening at Vendetti Field.
Nichols opened the scoring early in the first quarter before Curry answered with goals from Donovan Mawhinney and Jed Cappuccino to stay within striking distance, trailing 3-2 after one.
In the second quarter, the Bison extended their lead, building an 8-5 advantage heading into halftime despite Curry goals from Jared Reardon, Nicholas Cole, and a man-up tally by Khai Baldwin.
Curry surged in the third quarter, holding Nichols scoreless while netting three unanswered goals. Cole scored twice during the run, including an unassisted marker, before Mawhinney tied the game at 8-8 with a man-up goal off a feed from Blake Rothstein.
However, Nichols regained control in the fourth quarter. Conor Doherty scored twice in a span of less than a minute to break the tie, and the Bison added an insurance goal later in the period to secure the 11-8 victory.
Cole led the Colonels with three goals and an assist, while Mawhinney added two goals and an assist. Cappuccino and Reardon each chipped in a goal, and Kai Johnson dished out two assists.
Defensively, Niko DeCola made 15 saves in net for Curry, helping keep the Colonels within reach throughout the contest.
Nichols held advantages in ground balls (35-25) and faceoffs (16-7), while both teams converted twice on man-up opportunities.
Graduate student Nicholas Cole ends his final season at Curry with 45 points (34 goals, 11 assists). He wrapped up his impressive 2026 campaign with a five point outting, and notced his eighth hat trick of the season.
The Colonels end the year with a record of 3-13 overall and 1-7 in Conference of New England action.
