Dartmouth, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team faced a tough start to their 2025 season, falling 5-1 to UMass Dartmouth in their opener at Cressy Field.
The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the Colonels taking an early 1-0 lead. Midfielder Aiden Watts converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute after being fouled inside the box. However, UMass Dartmouth quickly responded, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 33rd minute. Just a few minutes later Dartmouth found the back of the net once more and going up 2-1 in the 38th minute. The Corsairs extended their advantage further right before halftime, making it a 3-1 edge in the 44th minute
In the second half, Curry tried to generate offense as UMass Dartmouth maintained their pressure. However, they were not able to breakthrough again and the match would end 5-1 in favor of UMass.
Curry managed 14 shots in the match, with six on target, but were unable to break through the UMass Dartmouth defense. Goalkeeper Ryan McGourty finished the game with one save.
Curry will look to regroup and have their first home match on Sunday morning, hosting the Lynx of Lesely University at 11 AM on Walter M. Katz Field.
