Milton, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team played to a dramatic 4-4 draw with Dean College on Wednesday night at Walter M. Katz Field. The match featured eight goals, two lead changes, and a late equalizer that made the Colonels' record 1-1-1 on the season.
Dean came out firing, striking twice in the opening eight minutes. Brian Allen opened the scoring just over a minute in, followed by Ethan Henderson's tally in the 8th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 cushion. Curry, however, responded before halftime behind the attacking brilliance of sophomore forward Kaden Puglia. The striker netted his first of the day in the 28th minute off a feed from Nathan Stoltz, then added an unassisted finish in the 39th to level the match at 2-2 heading into the break.
Puglia completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute, putting the Colonels ahead 3-2 with a laser strike off the crossbar. Dean quickly countered, equalizing through Felipe Castillo just four minutes later and then reclaiming the lead less than two minutes after that when Ayomide Talabi made it 4-3 in favor of the visitors.
Despite facing heavy pressure, Curry goalkeeper Ryan McGourty stood tall, recording 11 saves on 24 Dean shots to keep the Colonels within reach. As time wound down, Curry found a breakthrough in the 88th minute. Senior forward Aiden Watts buried a penalty kick to bring the score to 4-4, salvaging the draw for the home side. His goal also makes him the second player since 2009 to have scored in each of his teams first three games, with the other player being his teammate Lucas Drons.
Statistically, Dean held a 24-17 advantage in shots and an 11-8 edge in corner kicks, but Curry's efficiency in front of goal proved decisive in keeping pace. Puglia led all players with seven shots on target, converting three times for his first collegiate hat trick. Watts added four shots and the crucial late equalizer.
With the result, Curry moves to 1-1-1 while Dean sits at 0-1-1. The Colonels return to action this weekend when they travel for a non-conference matchup at Thomas (ME) on Saturday.
