MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team struck early but couldn't hold on, falling 3-1 to Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on Saturday morning at Walter M. Katz Field. With the result, the Colonels drop to 1-5-2 overall (0-2-0 CNE), while the Leopards move to 1-4-3 (1-1-0 CNE).
Curry got off to a great start, finding the back of the net less than four minutes into the contest. Sophomore forward Lucas Drons capitalized on a turnover in the defensive third and buried an unassisted goal to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. The momentum was short-lived, however, as an own goal in the 15th minute leveled the score at 1-1.
From there, both sides settled into a back-and-forth battle. Curry produced seven first-half shots, including efforts from Ryan Koster and Matthew Drons, while goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham turned away four Wentworth attempts to keep the match tied heading into halftime.
Wentworth seized control early in the second half. Just three minutes after the restart, Kingston McGee fired home an unassisted strike to give the Leopards their first lead of the day. The visitors continued to apply pressure, racking up 21 total shots in the match and forcing Cunningham into seven saves.
Curry worked to respond, with Koster and Drons again generating looks on goal, but Wentworth sealed the win late. In the 86th minute, Dylan Michaud connected on a feed from Angel Rojas to extend the lead to 3-1. Despite a final push, the Colonels were unable to cut into the deficit.
Drons paced Curry with four shots, including his team's lone goal, while Koster and Matthew Drons each registered attempts on frame. Cunningham battled in net, posting seven saves against a relentless Wentworth attack.
Curry will be back home on Tuesday evening hosting the Rams of Framingham State at 7 PM.
