MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team fell 4-1 to visiting Johnson & Wales University (RI) on Saturday evening in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels move to 3-9-2 overall (0-6-0 CNE), while the Wildcats improve to 6-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half that featured strong defensive play from both sides, the match opened up quickly in the second period. Johnson & Wales broke through less than two minutes into the half when Bruno Teixeira found the back of the net in the 47th minute, assisted by Chad Parente. Curry wasted little time responding, as less than a minute later, Joseph Ruffino buried a shot to level the score at 1-1. Ruffino's goal, assisted by Aiden Grafton, gave the Colonels a burst of momentum and energized the home crowd.
However, the Wildcats regained control shortly after. Carlos Andrade netted his first of two goals in the 52nd minute, once again with Parente providing the setup. Teixeira then extended the lead to 3-1 in the 78th minute with his second goal of the night. Andrade capped the scoring in the 87th minute, converting on an assist from Teixeira to seal the 4-1 result.
The Wildcats outshot Curry 18-7, but despite the scoreline, goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham had a standout performance for Curry, recording 10 saves in a busy night between the posts. The Colonels managed seven total shots, with Ruffino and Ryan Koster leading the effort on the attack.
The Colonels will continue CNE play on Tuesday night at home, set to host the Hawks of Roger Williams at 7 PM on Katz Field.
