Patchogue, NY - The Curry Men's Volleyball team fell to St. Joseph's (LI) and Hunter on Saturday, wrapping up a weekend trip to New York. The Colonels are now 3-5 on the season.
Match One vs St. Joseph's (LI)
The Colonels fell in the first match of the day in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-11. The Colonels were down as many as seven points in the first set, and used a 5-0 run late to make things interesting, but were unable to come all the way back. The second set was back and forth with the hosts pulling away late. The third set was the same story, and the Colonels fell in three sets.
Chris Milfort led the team with 11 kills, and was joined by a trio of three players with six in Jayden Garcia, Brock Beggs, and Nicholas Watson. Nyko Whitaker had 28 set assists, while Beggs and Braden Alpert each had seven digs. Garcia was a presence at the net with five blocks, with Whitaker and Milo Barry Young each having four.
Match Two vs Hunter
The Colonels would win the first set of this match, but fall in the next three, losing the match 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20. Each set was close, with neither team ever really pulling away in any of them.
Milfort once again led the team with 15 kills, with Michael Swanigan also chipping in six. Whitaker once again directed the offense, this time with 26 assists. Alpert led the team with 10 digs, one more than both Milfort and Watson.
Up Next - The Colonels will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Emmanuel for a 7pm match.
