Men's Volleyball Takes Down Wheaton
Norton, MA - The Curry Men's Volleyball team defeated Wheaton College on Tuesday in straight sets by a score of 25-22, 27-25, 25-21. The Colonels are now 13-13 on the season, while the Lyons are 9-13.
Wheaton went up early in the first set, winning five of the first six points. But the Colonels stayed composed, and tied things at eight, before slowly building a lead. They would get up by as many as five, and eventually take the set 25-22 on a Nyko Whitaker kill. The second set was the same story, as the Lyons went up early, taking a 9-5 lead. The Colonels responded with four straight points to tie things up, and then it went back and forth. The Colonels had two set points at 24-22 and 24-23, but the Lyons won both of them, and then the next point, to set up their own set point. But the Colonels would answer by scoring the final three points of the set, to win it 27-25, and go up 2-0. The third set saw neither team get out to an early big lead, and it wasn't until the midway point of the set that the Colonels began to pull away, going up by as many as seven before winning it 25-21.
Only five players recorded kills for the Colonels, led by Chris Milfort's 15. Behind him was Kean Jarvinen and Nicholas Watosn each with eight, and Jayden Garcia with seven. Of the Colonels 41 kills, Nyko Whitaker was involved in 36 of them, posting 33 set assists and three kills. He finished one dig short of a double-double with nine. Braden Alpert led the team with 12 digs.
Up Next - The Colonels will take a 10 day hiatus, before returning to play on Friday, April 3rd at Endicott.
