Softball Salvages Split With Endicott

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College softball team split a doubleheader with Endicott College on Sunday afternoon, losing 7-1 in the opener before shutting out the Gulls for a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

The Colonels (4-14 overall) handed the Endicott (9-3 overall) their first loss of the spring thanks to big game from Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.), going 1-for-3 at the dish with two runs batted in and one run scored. Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) did her part in the circle, tossing a complete game to earn her first win of the season. 

Game 1 – Endicott 7, Curry 1

An RBI double by Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) gave the Gulls a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Adrianna Favereau (Tewksbury, Mass.) added to the lead when she reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed Hopgood to score.

The Colonels chipped away at the lead in the second, thanks to an RBI single from Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.). The base knock scored Jocelyn Dimond (Weare, N.H.) to make the score 2-1 after the first inning of play.

The next scoring came in the seventh inning, off a three-RBI Favreau homer to center field to push the lead to 5-1. Endicott tacked on two runs later on a Danielle Stratton (Agawam, Mass.) two-RBI single to left, which plated Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I) and Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.)

The win was credited to Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) in the circle as the sophomore tossed a complete game while giving up one run on three hits. She struck out ten and walked one. Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) picked up the loss, surrendering five runs on 12 hits while striking out six and walking three.

Game 2 – Curry 3, Endicott 0

The first runs of game two came by way of a one-run single by Dimond to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead in the fifth. Colleran then homered to left field in the sixth with Jordan Perzan (Burlington, Conn.) on base to put the home squad up 3-0.   

Black had enough to hold off the Gulls late. She limited Endicott to two hits while fanning two and walking one. Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) was credited with the loss, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking two.

Curry will next play on Tuesday at home against Newbury in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. Endicott will return to the field Monday at Gordon in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
