Softball Loses to Haverford and RIC
Clermont, FL - The Curry Softball team fell to Haverford on Thursday 11-3 in six innings, and then RIC 9-5. The Colonels are now 3-5 on the season, while the Fords are 6-1, and RIC is 7-2.
Game One vs Haverford
After Haverford scored two runs in the first, the Colonels got one back on a Karlie Pontes RBI single. But the Fords began to run away with it scoring five runs over the next three innings. The Colonels got one back in the fourth to make it 7-2, but Haverford responded with three more runs over the next two innings. The Colonels would get one more in the sixth, but trailing 11-3 at the end of the inning, the game was called due to the run rule.
While nine of the 11 runs the Colonels gave up were earned, they did commit seven errors in the field.
Renee Gonneville had two singles for the Colonels, and Lizzy Helmar had a triple.
Game Two vs Rhode Island College
The Colonels scored first in this oneas Renee Gonneville scored on a fielder's choice in the first after reaching on a single. But Rhode Island then scored four runs in the seconds to go up 4-1. Not to be outdone, the Colonels then responded with four runs of their own in the fourth, with three of the runs coming on RBI doubles from Adrianna Capozzi and Morgan Barmash. This put the Colonels up 5-4 headed into the fifth. But RIC would tie things up in the fifth on a HR, then go ahead with four runs in the sixth to win 9-5.
Barmash had three hits for the Colonels, while Gonneville and Capozzi each had two. Both of Capozzi's hits were doubles.
Isabella Monsanto pitched the first four innings for the the Colonels, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Kassidy Lobb was handed the loss, tossing two innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs.
Up Next - The Colonels will wrap up their Spring Break trip on Friday against Northwestern (MN) and North Central (IL).
