Milton, MA - The Curry softball team fell in both games of their CNE doubleheader against Hartford on Wednesday, losing game one 10-8, and game two 9-1. The Colonels are now 3-9 on the season, and 0-2 in CNE play, while the Hawks are 8-4 and 0-2.
Game One
The Hawks got out to a big 9-0 lead, scoring twice in the first, once in the second, and then opening it up with six in the fourth. But the Colonels answered the big top half of the fourth with an even bigger bottom half, as they scored seven runs, to make it 9-7. Izzy Henderson, and Renee Gonneville each had RBI singles, with Gonneville's scoring three. Ana Tsonis had an RBI double, and Morgan Barmash hit a sacrifice fly, with the other run coming a Lindsay DesRoberts bases loaded walk. The Colonels, in an attempt to make their first 6+ run comeback in seven years, when they overcame a 10-6 deficit against Dean on March 20, 2019 to win 14-11, then added another run in fifth on a ground out to make it 9-8 Hawks. The Hawks added an insurance run in the seventh before the Colonels came up for their last at bats. Back-to-back singles from Ana Tsonis and Skylar Colburn had the Colonels in business, and they each advanced on a sacrifice bunt. But the next two batters were unable to bring them home, and the comeback fell short.
Ana Tsonis led the Colonels with three hits, while Renee Gonneville and Tara Goldman each had two. Tsonis was handed the loss in the circle after starting and going 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. Morgan Barmash was effective in relief, allowing just six hits and one earned run in 3.2 innings.
