Fitchburg, MA - The Curry softball team had a come from behind win over Fitchburg State on Thursday, beating the Falcons 5-4 in eight innings. The second game was a smoother win for the Colonels, as they won 9-5. The Colonels are now 5-9, while the Falcons are now 1-11.
Game One
The Falcons scored two runs in the first to take an early lead. The Colonels responded in the fourth with a run on an error, and then tied things up on a RBI double from Ciara McMenamin in the sixth. The Colonels took a brief lead in the seventh on a Cailene Dupras RBI single through the right side of the infield, but the Falcons tied things up in the bottom half of the error, sending the Colonels to their third extra inning game of the season.
In the extra inning, the Colonels scored twice, with one run coming in on a Lizzy Helmar RBI single, and another on an Olivia Roy sacrifice fly. The Falcons would get one run back, and then have the opportunity to tie things up, but the Colonels executed a perfect relay from left field, and got the tying runner out at home to end the game.
The Colonels had 10 hits on the day, with two each from Cailene Dupras and Karlie Pontes.
Kassidy Lobb started in the circle for the Colonels, going 5.1 innings and allowing sevin hits and two earned runs. Ana Tsonis picked up the win by pitching the final 2.2 innings, and allowing just four hits and two unearned runs.
Game Two
After three scoreless innings, the Colonels broke things open with five runs in the fourth. Lindsay DesRoberts opened the floodgates with her first career home run, a three run shot. Olivia Roy followed it up with an RBI triple, and Tara Goldman knocked her in with an RBI single. The Colonels then added three more in the fifth on RBI singles from Isabella Monsanto and Dabria Allardice. The last Curry run came on a Skylar Colburn single in the sixth.
Isabella Monsanto got the start and the win for the Colonels, pitching five innings and allowing 10 hits and four earned runs.
Up Next - The Colonels will return to conference play on Saturday when they host RWU at 12pm.
