Franklin, MA - The Curry softball team split their doubleheader at Dean on Wednesday, falling in game one 9-8, and then winning game two 4-3. The Colonels are now 10-18 on the season, while Dean is 8-19.
Game One
The first game of the day saw the two teams go blow for blow. The Bulldogs started things off with three in the second, only for the Colonels to score twice in the third and once in the fourth to tie things up. Both runs in the third came on an Isabella Monsanto triple, while the run in the fourth scored on an error. But in the bottom half of the inning Dean responded by scoring four runs. With momentum in Dean's favor, the Colonels answered again, this time with four runs of their own in the fifth. Tara Goldman knocked in the first run of the inning with a double, and then scored on an Izzy Henderson single. She then scored on an error before the final run came in on a Morgan Barmash sacrifice fly, which tied the game at seven. The Colonels then took an 8-7 lead in the top half of the seventh on a Karlie Pontes RBI single. But a pair of walks, and a pair of singles produced two runs for Dean in the bottom half of the inning, and they would be walk off winners.
The Colonels had seven hits, with Monsanto leading the way with two of them. She also started in the circle for the Colonels, going three innings, allowing six hits and seven earned runs. Tara Goldman then came in and pitched three shutout innings, only allowing five hits and a walk. Kassidy Lobb came in to pitch the seventh and was dealt the loss.
Game Two
The Colonels were the ones to get out to a 3-0 lead in game two, scoring a run in the second on a wild pitch, and then two runs in the fourth on a Karlie Pontes double. The Bulldogs got one run back in the fourth, but the Colonels added it back in the seventh on a Kailey Collins-Fiore single. That would prove to be an important run, as Dean would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh, and get the tying run to third base. But the Colonels would get the final out, and win 4-3.
The Colonels had six hits in the game, with Ana Tsonis leading the way with two singles. She started in the circle as well, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. She was relieved by Morgan Barmash, who picked up the win by pitching the remaining 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, striking out three.
Up Next - The Colonels will travel to Endicott on Saturday for a 12pm start time.
