Softball Season Ends With Pair of Losses to Johnson & Wales
Providence, RI - Curry College softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Johnson & Wales on Friday, falling 16-3 in five innings and 10-4 in the nightcap in it's CNE regular season finale.
Game #1:
Johnson & Wales came out swinging, plating seven runs in the first in the opening game. The Wildcats added three more in the second and continued to build their lead with multi-run frames in the third and fourth.
Curry got on the board in the third inning on a solo home run from Renee Gonneville. The Colonels added two more in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single from Lindsay DesRoberts and a run-scoring groundout by Morgan Saraceno.
Morgan Barmash, Kassidy Lobb, and Renee Gonneville each recorded a hit for Curry, which was limited to just three on the game. Johnson & Wales totaled 16 hits, led by Olivia Mason and Hailey Cardiello, who combined for six hits and six RBI.
Lobb took the loss on the mound for the Colonels going two innings. Jill Reed earned the win for the Wildcats, going five innings, allowing three runs.
Game #2:
Curry showed more offensive life in the second match, but Johnson & Wales completed the sweep behind another strong hitting performance.
The Colonels struck first this time, as DesRoberts delivered an RBI double to score Cailene Dupras. After falling behind 4-1, Curry rallied in the third inning, capitalizing on a Johnson & Wales error to plate two runs and cut the deficit to 4-3.
Johnson & Wales responded with three runs in the fourth and added insurance the rest of the way to maintain control.
Cailene Dupras led Curry with two hits and an RBI, while DesRoberts added another run driven in. The Colonels finished with seven hits in the contest.
Morgan Barmash took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs over 3.2 innings. Madi Wong took the victory for Johnson & Wales, giving up just one run in five innings of work.
