Women's Basketball Cruises to 89-53 Road Win at Southern Vermont
BENNINGTON, Vt. – Five players scored in double figures, including a game-high 17 points from senior Cortney Robinson, as visiting Curry raced past Southern Vermont, 89-53, in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday evening. The Colonels improve to 2-0 while the Mountaineers fall to 1-1.
Curry started the game on a 23-3 run with 14:15 left in the first half. The lead was insurmountable for the Mountaineers, who stayed at least 14 points behind the Colonels for the remainder of the game. The hosts struggled from the field, shooting just 27.4% while the Colonels connected at a 55.4% clip. The visitors also out-rebounded the Mountaineers 46-32.
Robinson led Curry with her 17 points, while freshman Ashley Assarian and sophomore Julia Scrubb each contributed 16 points for the Colonels. Juniors Joa Claircus and Rita Hall led the Mountaineers with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Senior Tish Hall contributed seven rebounds for Southern Vermont.
The Colonels resume play on Friday, hosting Mount Ida at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the Curry Tip-Off Tournament. The Mountaineers are off until Tuesday, November 30 when they host New England College at 6:00 p.m.
