Colonels Fall in 80-55 Road Loss at Clark
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team traveled to Worcester Saturday, falling 80–55 to undefeated Clark University at Hurst Courts. Despite a strong rebounding effort and stretches of competitive play, the Colonels (1–2) were unable to slow down a red-hot Cougars offense that shot over 50 percent from the field and controlled the game from start to finish.
Curry opened the afternoon with energy, getting early scoring from Kasey Reeves and Samantha Conti to stay within striking distance, trailing just 20–13 after the first quarter. However, Clark used an efficient 19-point second frame, highlighted by timely three-point shooting and a relentless transition game, to build a 39–23 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Colonels continued to compete, posting their best offensive stretch in the third quarter behind baskets from Lauren Dunn, Ella Palanza, and Reeves. But Clark's balanced scoring attack and ability to get to the free-throw line (27-for-31 for the game) kept Curry from mounting a sustained run.
Conti and Dunn each finished with 10 points to lead the Colonels, with Conti adding three rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 27 minutes. Reeves delivered a strong showing inside, posting 7 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal, while Palanza added 7 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.
Forward Sophie Hilbrunner contributed 6 points and 5 boards, and Libby Harris knocked down a pair of threes for her 6 points.
Turnovers proved costly for the Colonels, who committed 19 giveaways, many of which led directly to Clark points. The Cougars capitalized with 12 steals and a fast-paced attack led by Cyriah Coleman (15 points) and Kailey Rios (14 points), while Atiya Watson added 13 points and a game-high 5 assists.
Despite the final margin, Curry outrebounded Clark 35–40, including 20 offensive boards, showing effort and toughness on the glass.
The Colonels will be on the road again Wednesday when they face the Hawks of Roger Williams at 5:30 PM.
