Rams Defeat Colonels 58-46
BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team fought hard on the road Saturday afternoon but fell to a strong Suffolk University squad, 58–46, at Smith Court. The Colonels put together multiple promising stretches—especially early—but Suffolk's rebounding advantage and a standout performance from forward Allison Bono proved too much to overcome.
Curry opened the game with an 8-4 edge over the first several minutes, which was capped by a three-point field goal from Lauren Morse. As the quarter continued, the Rams were able to close the gap and would eventually close the quarter on a 5-1 run to take a 15-14 edge.
But Suffolk, now 8–1 (2-0 CNE) on the season, tightened up defensively in the second quarter, holding Curry to just 10 points while establishing control on the glass. The Rams rode the interior play of Bono, who delivered a commanding 20-point, 10-rebound double-double, shooting an efficient 10-of-12 from the floor. Suffolk's ability to score in the paint and convert at the free-throw line helped them build a 33–24 halftime lead.
The third quarter proved pivotal as Suffolk extended the margin with a 17-point frame, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities created by a 47–30 rebounding advantage.
Defensively, Curry showed resilience in the fourth quarter, holding Suffolk to just eight points, their lowest-scoring frame of the day, but it wasn't enough to get back into stirking distance as they would eventually suffer the loss.
Ella Palanza was the lone Colonel in double figures posting 11 points and also pacing the team in rebounds (5) and steals (3). Lauren Morse laced two three-pointers and ended with 8 points as Kasey Reeves and Sophie Hilbrunner both added six points each in the starting lineup.
Lauren Dunn provided energy off the bench with six points and four rebounds, while Grace Fleuriel added four points.
The Colonels (1–7, 0–3 CNE) will look to regroup over the coming weeks and will use the Christmas break hiatus to prepare for a pair of matches in Dayton Beach, Florida at the end of December.
