Women's Basketball Falls to WNE
Milton, MA - The Curry Women's Basketball team fell to Western New England on Tuesday 70-61, dropping to 2-18 on the season and 1-10 in CNE play. The Golden Bears are now 14-6 and 8-3.
The two teams went back and forth in the first quarter, with the Colonels using a 7-0 run to take momentum with a 15-8 lead. But over the final four minutes of the quarter, WNE went on a 6-0 run to make it 15-14 Curry after one. The second quarter was also close throughout, and it was the Colonels making a late 7-3 run to bring things tied at 27 at the break.
The third quarter saw the Colonels and Golden Bears trade baskets. But the Colonels would use a 10-1 run to take a seven point lead. That lead would be four at the end of the quarter with the Colonels up 47-43. A Lauren Dunn three pointer early in the fourth gave the Colonels a 53-45 lead, but the Golden Bear would go on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to regain the lead. Things were tied at 61 with just over two minutes left in the game, but WNE would close the game on a 9-0 run to win 70-61.
Lauren Dunn led the way for the Colonels, scoring 20 points on 6-10 shooting, while grabbing six rebounds. She eclipsed the 1,200 career point mark in the game, and passed Kristen Gliga '91 for the fifth most points in program history. She is currently 80 points behind Tracy Heneghan for fourth.
Also scoring in double digits was Kasey Reeves (12) and Ella Palanza (11).
