Biddeford, ME - The Curry Women's Hockey team beat the UNE Nor'easters on Saturday in a shootout, with the game officially going in the books as a 2-2 tie. The Colonels are now 9-9-2 on the season and 5-7-2 in CNE play, while the Nor'easters are 9-11-1 and 5-8-1.
The conference's leading goal scorer Bella Mardesich scored her 13th goal of the season midway through the first period to put the Colonels up 1-0. Curry then doubled their lead early in the second on a Kayley Hansen power play goal. The Colonels would lead 2-0 headed into the third.
The Nor'easters would cut the lead in half just before the halfway point of the period. Then with their goalie pulled for an extra attacker, they tied things up with 40 seconds left in regulation. After a scoreless overtime period, the Colonels would win the shootout with Morgan Slough and Rian Faery each scoring.
The Colonels outshot UNE 7-6 in the first period, but were outshot 32-21 on the game. Curry won the faceoff battle 30-26.
Coriann Hoag stopped 30 of 32 shots, and made two big saves in the shootout.
Up Next - The Colonels will travel to Keene State for a non-conference game at 5pm on Saturday.
