Canton, MA - The Curry Women's Hockey team fell to Western New England on Friday 4-3 in OT, falling to 10-10-2 on the season, and 5-8-2 in CNE play. The Golden Bears are now 15-6-1 and 11-3-1.
The Golden Bears struck first, scoring just over three minutes into the game, but the Colonels would respond. About halfway through the period Reilly Ganter flung a shot on net, and it was deflected in by a WNE player, giving Ganter, a senior, her first career goal in 87 games played. It would stay tied at one all the way until the midway point of the third, when WNE scored two quick goals to make it 3-1. Time was running out for the Colonels, but they got within one with under five minutes remaining on an Ann Kahl goal. They then pulled their goalie with over two minutes remaining, but could not get much going, as the puck got stuck up against the boards multiple times. With less than five seconds left Grace Inoue was able to flick the puck out of a scrum on the boards, and get it to Rian Faery. Faery took a shot from the blue line, and it went in with less than a second left in the game, sending the game to OT. But this time it was the Golden Bears who scored with just second remaining, as they scored a goal with 37.5 seconds left in the extra period to win it.
The Colonels outshot the Golden Bears 34-29, and won the faceoff battle 37-26. Coriann Hoag made 25 saves on 29 shots in net for Curry.
Captains Tommi Nash and Ava Doyle each were playing in their 100th career game.
Up Next - The Colonels will play Nichols on Saturday at 3:40pm at Nichols.
