Women's Lacrosse Defeats Gordon College 11-7
WENHAM, Mass.. -- Gordon Women's Lacrosse suffered an 11-7 defeat at the hands of visiting Curry College. The loss drops Gordon to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in TCCC action, while Curry improves to 8-3, and is 5-2 in conference play.
Freshman Courtney Shaffer (Hull, Mass.) free position goal with 2:01 left in the first half broke a 5-5 tie and gave Curry a lead that it never surrendered the rest of the way. Freshman Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) struck again before the half ended and the Colonels carried a 7-5 lead into intermission, despite 3 goals by Gordon's Jordan Alexander.
After the break, Bottary scored twice in succession and junior Kelly Champagne (Wolfeboro, NH) added another tally to give Curry a commanding 10-5 lead. Michaela Woods and Maggie Roth would answer for the Scots, but it was never enough to seriously threaten the Curry lead.
Gordon fired 18 shots while Curry put up 32 shots. The Scots' freshman goalkeeper Amelia Vierstra made 12 saves, while the Curry combination of juniors Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) and Kate Noe(Greenwich, CT) combined for nine stops.
Bottary and senior Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.) led Curry with three goals apiece, while Alexander's three goals paced the Scots. Gordon will return to action Tuesday at 7PM when they travel to face Nichols. Curry travels to New England College on April 13 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.
