Hansbury Named as TCCC Player of the Year
MILTON, Mass. - ALL-TCCC WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM ANNOUNCED
• Curry’s Ashley Hansbury Selected Offensive Player of the Year
• Roger Williams’ Jackie Criss Honored as Defensive Player of the Year
• Nichols’ Krista-Jean Forand Chosen Rookie of the Year
• Univ. of New England’s Amanda Barker Recognized as Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year
• Roger Williams’ Selina Collier Named Coach of the Year
• Salve Regina University Earns Team Sportsmanship Award
- Student-athletes from ten different institutions in The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2009 All-TCCC Women’s Lacrosse Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition to the all-conference team, winners of five major individual awards and the team sportsmanship award were also selected. Curry College junior Ashley Hansbury was named TCCC Offensive Player of the Year, Roger Williams University senior Jackie Criss was picked as TCCC Defensive Player of the Year, Nichols College freshman Krista-Jean Forand was chosen TCCC Rookie of the Year, University of New England’s Amanda Barker was honored as TCCC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Roger Williams University’s Selina Collier was honored as TCCC Coach of the Year, and Salve Regina University was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Voting for the All-TCCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among TCCC women’s lacrosse coaches.
Joining Hansbury (attack) and Criss (midfield) on the first team were attackers Valerie Feldman (Endicott), Nikki MacKay (Curry) and Alex Pearce (Endicott), midfielders Lindsey Fenton (Western New England), Katie Knaus (Gordon), and Allicia Murphy (Colby-Sawyer), defenders Colleen Arnold (Curry), Ginny Lee (Univ. of New England), Katie Leighton (Endicott), and Molly Moss (Endicott), and goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Roger Williams).
Second-team selections included attackers Annie Cameron (Gordon), Kate McCarter (Univ. of New England), and Dani Zorn (Gordon), midfielders Jodie Dresser (New England College), Sara Gunter (Endicott), Nicole Poli (Western New England), Rachel Robichaud (Curry), defenders Kylie Hardin (Gordon), Nicole Papasergiou (Roger Williams), and Emily Schall (Roger Williams), and goalkeepers Alexandra DiRico (New England College) and Molly Hamel (Endicott).
Receiving honorable mention were attackers Kasey Beckwith (Roger Williams), Claire Halliday (Roger Williams), and Emily Tanguay (New England College), midfielders Carin Czerniawski (Endicott), Mallory Long (Univ. of New England), and Michelle Thompson (Western New England), defenders Shayna Beckwith (Roger Williams), Erin Conn (Western New England), Stephanie Currant (New England College), Veronica Miano (Western New England), and goalkeeper Chyanne Wilson (Gordon).C
Hansbury, a junior from Chelmsford, Mass., has enjoyed a storybook campaign for the Colonels. In addition to leading all TCCC players with 48 goals and 61 points during conference play, her 96 goals and 125 points ranked third and second in all of NCAA Division III, respectively, as of the most recent national statistics update. Always one to make her teammates better, Hansbury also ranked sixth in the league with 13 assists during conference play and fourth with 29 assists in overall play.
Criss, a senior from Westwood, Mass., has been an integral part of a stingy Hawks defensive unit form her midfield position. She has helped spearhead a defense that ranks second in all of NCAA Division III with 6.51 goals allowed per game, as of the most recent national statistics update. Criss led her team with 25 caused turnovers in conference play and 34 in all regular-season games played. She also led the Hawks with 32 ground balls during the regular-season.
Forand, a freshman from Plymouth, Mass., has been a standout performer during her inaugural season at Nichols. In 13 total games played, Forand scored 36 of the Bison’s 85 total goals, while assisting on 10 others for a team-high 46 points. During conference-only play, Forand scored 15 of her team’s 37 goals, while adding three assists, for a team-best 18 points.
Barker, a senior from Gloucester, Mass., has enjoyed a tremendous career as a student-athlete at the University of New England. She concluded the regular-season with 40 goals and 46 points, both of which rank second among Nor’easter players. A medical biology major with a 3.95 GPA, Barker will be graduating summa cum laude from UNE this spring. She has volunteered her time with numerous organizations and youth athletics groups around Biddeford, Maine.
In her first year at Roger Williams, Collier has led the Hawks to an impressive 13-2 overall record entering the TCCC tournament, including a 8-1 mark in conference play. The Hawks earned the #2 seed in the TCCC championship field, and are currently ranked second among all NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse programs in team defense, while also ranking 20th in total points.
