Hansbury Scores 15 Points as Women's Lacrosse Downs Mount Ida, 18-5 in Home Opener
MILTON, Mass.-Curry College scored twelve first half goals en route to an 18-5 victory over Mt. Ida College on Tuesday in Milton. With the win, the Colonels improve to 1-0 overall. The Mustangs fall to 0-1 overall.
Senior attacker Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomore attacker Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) and junior attacker Lauren Glavin (Billerica, Mass.) led the Colonels with 15, six and five points respectively. Hansbury found the back of the net six times while dishing out nine assists, Bottary scored five times and added one assist, while Glavin contributed five goals. Freshman Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, NY) rounded out the scoring with two goals and one assist.
Curry’s ball movement was solid with eight different players chipping in with assists. Senior attacker Jessie Koffman (Andover, Mass.), senior midfielder Kelly Champagne (Wolfeboro, NH), and freshmen Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, VT) and Caity Tobyne (Hamilton-Wenham, Mass.) all had one assist.
Curry, which held a 19-6 advantage in draw controls also scooped up 27 groundballs to Mt. Ida’s 11.
Mount Ida had five first half goals, but were scoreless in the second. Three different players scored for the Mustangs. Senior attacker Jennifer Thompson (Easton, MD) scored three goals while senior attacker Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT) and freshman attacker Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY) netted one goal apiece. Senior midfielder Kira Feeter (Keene, NH) also contributed to the Mustang attack with one assist.
Curry played two different goalies in net, senior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.), finished with ten saves and five goals against in 50:43 minutes, and senior Kate Noe (Greenwich, CT) saved two shots allowing no goals in 9:17 minutes. In net for Mount Ida was freshman Katherine Chousa (Norwood, Mass.) who made twelve saves for the loss.
The Colonels will host Lasell College on Thursday, March 10 for a 4:00 p.m. game time. Mount Ida travels to Husson on March 17 for a for a 2:00 p.m. start.
