MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent UMass Dartmouth on Katz Field Saturday morning.
With the loss, Curry falls to 0-3 on the season. With the win, the Corsairs improve to 1-1.
The Colonels came out quickly in the morning bout, finding the back of the net twice within the first seven minutes of play. Maggie Murray (Marstons Mills, Mass.) began Curry's scoring, assisted by Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) gave the Colonels a one-point lead. Santaniello netted the second goal of the morning just four minutes following the opening goal on a free position shot. Two goals from Corsairs' forward Melanny Sanchez Alvarez in the closing minutes tied up the contest. Curry would again take the lead with 1:52 left in the first with an unassisted goal from Sharon Doherty (Easton, Mass.).
Four goals to Curry's one in the second quarter granted the visitors a two-goal lead heading into halftime. UMass Dartmouth's Melanny Sanchez Alvarez marked two more in the second quarter alone.
The visitors would score four unanswered goals in the third quarter to take a 10-4 lead heading into the final period of play. Curry's Santaniello and Doherty each tallied a goal in the fourth quarter, however, the Colonels would not be able to close the deficit presented by the visitors; UMass taking the victory on the road, 12-6.
The Colonels get back out on the field Wednesday as they travel to take on Wellesley at 4 PM.
